The Beginnings
The concept of Mis Reinas was born in the city of Montebello. What began as a homemade gift for one daughter has expanded to a rare collection of dolls enjoyed by family and friends. Mis Reinas are original, artistic dolls made in the image of Jalisco dancers. They are created as a tribute to my daughters who danced Folklorico and to my mother who called my sisters and I, Reina. They capture the spirit, colors, and love of the Mexican culture.
Zavala Family History
My parents, Juan and Victoria Zavala, originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato and Los Angeles are the loving parents of 14 children. Nine boys and five girls carry on my families’ creative genes including chefs, artists, musicians and now doll makers. As the 5th of the 14 children, I grew up in East Los Angeles. As an adult I married and had 3 children of my own. One day with the desire to create a doll for my daughter that was both rich with culture and soft to the touch… Mis Reinas were born.
